Why Ninth Circle?
The Ninth Circle is the final deepest level of hell, according to The Inferno, the first part of Dante Alighieri’s 14th-century epic ‘La Commedia’ (The Divine Comedy.)
Dante’s trilogy of poems, Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise, together form a journey that Dante himself makes through the depths of hell, through the middle ground of purification, and finally up to heaven. And while all three poems are works of genius, it is Inferno that has become the most influential Dante’s concepts and ideas of the nature of hell would inform not just medieval and Renaissance thinking but also colour our perceptions of evil and the diabolical right up to the present day.
Dante was a pious Christian and may not have been too keen on the idea that his most famous work is being associated with books about the esoteric and the occult. And that 'our' occult theories, philosophies and praxis would have landed us in one or other of Dante’s circles of hell.
Nevertheless, we are the Ninth Circle Press.
